and service. We have recruited only those pathologists who maintain the highest
professional standards. Our pathologists hold board certification in Anatomic and/or
Clinical Pathology and have additional board certifications in Dermatopathology,
Cytopathology, Hematopathology and Blood Banking. The wealth of expertise of our Pathology
staff provides opportunities for immediate consultation of complex cases.
Anatomic/Clinical Pathology
N. Peter Libbey, MD, is a graduate of the
University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency in Pathology at the
Hartford Hospital and is board certified in Anatomic Pathology. His expertise includes
surgical oncology with emphasis on endocrine disease.
Lance Tibbetts, MD, is a graduate of Mt. Sinai
School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Pathology at Brown University. He is
certified in Anatomic Pathology. His expertise includes surgical oncology in addition to
an expansive knowledge of tumor biology.
Paul Ferbend, DO, is graduate of Chicago College of
Osteopathic Medicine. He completed fellowships in Pediatric Pathology at Northwestern
University and Hematopathology at Harvard University. His present interest includes
urologic pathology as well as surgical oncology.
Molecular Pathology
Abby L. Maizel, MD, Ph.D, is a graduate of the
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship
at Temple University. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology. His present interests
include molecular immunology diagnostics, in addition to broad expertise in molecular
genetics.
Hematopathology
Jila Khorsand, MD, is a graduate of Tehran
University and is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She completed her
Pathology residency at the University of Connecticut. She completed fellowships in
Surgical and Hematopathology at MD Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, Houston TX. She
is a nationally known hematopathologist providing a unique resource for pathologists.
Immunology
Nicola Kouttab, Ph.D, is a graduate of Montana
State University. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Cancer
Institute, followed by the MD Anderson Hospital. He is board certified in clinical
immunology and possesses wide experience in flow cytometry.
Dermatopathology
Caroline Wilkel, MD, is a graduate of the
University of Connecticut Health Science Center. She completed her residency in
Dermatology and fellowship in Dermatopathology at Brown University/Roger Williams Medical
Center. She is board certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology.
Evangelos V. Badiavas, MD, Ph.D, is a graduate of
Jefferson Medical College. He completed his residency in Dermatology and fellowship in
Dermatopahology at the University of Miami. He is board certified in Dermatology and
Dermatopathology. He is widely known for his work in the area of wound healing.
Hendrick Bogaars, MD, is a graduate of Ledien
University Medical School. He completed his Pathology Residency at Noewalk Hospital, CT.
He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dermatopathology and
Immunopathology. He has more than 30 years of active dermatopathology practice.
Gastrointestinal Pathology
Mirela Stancu, MD, is a graduate of Carol Davila
University of Medicine and Pharmacy. She completed residency training in Pathology at
Brown University. She completed fellowships in GI Pathology at Boston University,
Hematopathology at Harvard University and Oncologic Surgical Pathology at MD Anderson
Hospital. She is board certified in Anatomic, Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology and
possesses broad expertise in GI Pathology.
Robert Lev, MD, a graduate of Lausanne University,
completed a residency at Brox Municipal and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He completed a
fellowship in Histochemistry at NIH in Washington, DC. He is board certified in Anatomic
and Clinical Pathology. He is an internationally recognized expert in GI polyps and has
authored numerous articles and books on the subject.
Blood Bank
Joseph Sweeney, MD, is a graduate of University
College of Medicine, Galway. He completed his residency in Clinical Pathology at Bronx
Municipal Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY, and a fellowship in Medical
Oncology at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo NY. He is certified in Blood Banking
by the American Board of Pathology.
